Watch: First Teaser Trailer for Coen Brothers’ True Grit

Media, Trailers

Paramount Pictures has debuted the first teaser for the Coen Brothers’ True Grit. The tandem, who never seems to make the same movie twice, have made a new adaptation the Charles Portis novel. Originally, John Wayne (in his Oscar-winning role) played U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn. For the new film, “The Dude” (Jeff Bridges) dons the eye patch and rifle. Joining him are Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld. The teaser isn’t long, but what footage is shown looks fantastic. Pay particular attention to the photography, especially how the snow-covered cabin/shack is shot as well as Steinfeld walking down a stretch of road in town at dusk. Simply beautiful.

The Coen Brothers’ True Grit, which is a more faithful take on the Portis novel, involves 14-year-old Mattie Ross (Steinfeld) determined to bring her father’s killer, Tom Chaney (Brolin), to justice. She enlists the help of a trigger-happy, drunken U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn (Bridges) to hunt down Chaney. They must find him before a Texas Ranger named LeBoeuf (Damon) can catch Chaney and bring him back to Texas for the murder of another man.

True Grit opens nationwide on Christmas Day.
