10 Thoughts Review on Avengers Prime #3 by Brian Michael Bendis and Alan Davis

10 Thoughts, Reviews

1. Brian Michael Bendis and Alan Davis take Thor, Steve Rogers, and Iron Man through the nine-realms on a bonding adventure. In this issue, the separated heroes reunite and plan against their opponent, Hela.

2. Annoyingly, last issue the villain was revealed to be Hela who played a wholly different role in last month’s Keiron Gillen Thor, while this month, we find out that we’re dealing with what happens in the 9 realms when Asgard is on Earth… the plot of Matt Fraction’s Thor. Both Fraction and Gillen make it feel bigger and more important than Bendis does here. I wish one of them got Alan Davis.

3. Alan Davis needs more comics. He’s amazing… seriously amazing.

4. When the hell did Tony Stark and Steve Rogers turn into Spider-Man and Luke Cage respectively? What the hell! Bendis, you don’t need that “pithy” dialogue in everything.

5. Seriously though, Stark was ridiculously annoying and out of character. And this shows no understanding of how his armor works. He has a battery in his chest. What’s the problem?

6. No one here has motivation and we’re three issues into a five issue mini-series. Why is Hela being all evil? Why is Enchantress defending Thor after trying to kill him last issue? This needs to be addressed.

7. Thor is most in-character of the main three characters here, but even he is uncharacteristically bitchy throughout. I guess now we know the reason Bendis wrote “New” Avengers for all those years.

8. We end with Thor deciding the trio are in hell for their sins. That’s B.S. Thor has been dead and to Hela’s realm and knows that isn’t what it’s like and, even so, we know damn well Steve Rogers doesn’t deserve hell and, moreover, this is pretty clearly not Hela’s realm, so it’s not even a good reader fakeout.

9. Consider this mini dropped. Shame, I love Alan Davis.

10. Rating: 3/10 – The rating is entirely for Davis ehre, as this is just bad besides with characterization, motivation and plot holes galore. Even Avengers is better written.
