MLB News: Pittsburgh Pirates Fire Manager John Russell

Russell led the Pirates to 103 losses and lost his job as a result.

A day after finishing their 18th consecutive losing season the Pirates fired Manager John Russell and the team will begin searching for a new manager immediately.

The Pirates went 57-105 this season, worst in the majors, four games worse than the Seattle Mariners. The Pirates finished 17-64 on the road which tied the 1963 New York Mets for worst ever.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for JR, both personally and professionally,” Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said. “He took on a difficult challenge, overseeing a major overhaul in the makeup of our team.”
