Film About the Chilean Miners Already in the Works; Javier Bardem to star?

News, Projects, Rumors

The last of the 33 trapped Chilean Miners were just rescued on Wednesday from a mine in the desert of Atacama, but that doesn’t mean a movie isn’t already being discussed.

Discussed? There appears to even be a major star already on board as well. Javier Bardem is reportedly in line to play a pivotal role in a the film which will be based on the tragic story of the miners who were trapped underground for 69 days without a means of escape. It pretty much is a given that a film will be made of their ordeal, but this just seems extremely fast for things to get moving. The Thaindian News though does say things are moving forward already.

It will make for a feel good story even though there was one little hiccup in an otherwise perfect tale of true-life heroism. One of the miners was apparently having an affair which his wife found out about while he was trapped underground. Kind of awkward when you’re pulled free after two months in a mine and have both your wife and mistress waiting for you.

Take this news for what it’s worth, but sooner or later this film is going to get made and it truly seems like it will be the former rather than the latter.
