Last Friday, one of the most interesting project developments was that David O. Russell (Three Kings, upcoming release The Fighter) had agreed to helm a big screen adaptation of Sony PlayStation 3’s best-selling Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune video game.
Treasure hunter Nathan Drake, a supposed descendant of Sir Francis Drake, is the hero in a story that is the type expectant of a popcorn film. Which may explain why video game reviewers compared Uncharted to a summer blockbuster, with action and characters reminiscent of an Indiana Jones adventure. Mixing action cut scenes with gameplay allowed for a more immersive video game experience.
Even when the video game property was first rumored to be in development by Columbia Pictures and producer Avi Arad (Iron Man 2, Spider-Man), water cooler chatter revolved around who should play Nathan Drake?
Aside from Nolan North, who voices the character and influenced the creators of the game, Naughty Dog, with his mannerisms on what Nathan Drake would do in certain situations, Columbia Pictures would most likely be looking for a bigger name on the casting totem pole.
Speculation would have fans of the video game believe that actor Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Castle) is suited for the role, having both the looks and the attitude to pull it off.
Well, it looks like Fillion is lobbying for the role on Twitter.
“If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it. Rise, ye Browncoats. Rise, ye Castillions. RISE!”
Here’s the Nathan Fillion for Nathan Drake thread.
