Scream 4 Cast and Director Reveal More Story Details

In the “Reunions Issue” of Entertainment Weekly, there is a five-page spread featuring the stars of Scream talking about the franchise then and now. EW.com also adds to the spread with director Wes Craven and the cast revealing details the fourth installment.

Sidney (Neve Campbell), who has channeled the horrific moments of Woodsboro into a career as a self-help writer, returns home as the last stop on her book tour. There she reconnects with sheriff Dewey (David Arquette) and wife, Gale (Courteney Cox), as well as her cousin Jill (Emma Roberts) and aunt Kate (Mary McDonnell). Unfortunately for Sidney, her reappearance instigates a rash of Ghostface killings that affect Jill and her high school classmates.

Gale and Dewey have settled down and it is driving her nuts. “We’ve been married for 10 years, said Cox, whose character has given up being an entertainment journalist and has become a novelist. However, she now has “major writer’s block. I’m bored with my life and bored with my marriage and bored with the silly small town of Woodsboro.” Sidney’s reappearance in Woodsboro falls on the anniversary of the first killing. This allows Gale to put her investigative skills to good work as well as end her writer’s block.

Wes Craven believes that this film echoes the rules set forth in the first Scream. “The first [Scream] was very much observing where horror had been for the last 10 to 20 years. And this is very much looking at where horror has been for the last 10 years. There’s always somebody trying to figure out what the rules are to keep from getting killed.”
