Dragon Tattoo‘s Noomi Rapace Tops List To Star In 3D Alien Prequel

Deadline New York is reporting that 20th Century Fox and director Ridley Scott are keen to hire Noomi Rapace, the star of the Swedish Millennium Trilogy films — of which the latest, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, opens in theaters this weekend — to star in the upcoming Alien prequel.

While Inside Pulse reported earlier this month that Rapace had met with Scott, recent reports suggest those meetings could be heating up into real negotiations. Rapace, if she takes the role, would not star as Ellen Ripley, the role originated by Sigourney Weaver. The prequel, to be shot in 3D, would take place 30 years before the original film took place. Early speculation claimed that Scott, who directed the original Alien, was actually seeking to film two prequels back to back.

Other names being considered for the role include Carey Mulligan, Abbie Cornish, Natalie Portman and Olivia Wilde.

Rapace is currently filming Sherlock Holmes 2, the sequel to last year’s hit action film.

The original Alien series was released on Blu-ray this week. To see the best prices for this hefty set, check out Travis Leamon’s Disc Deals and Steals column.
