James Cameron’s Sanctum Takes You Down Under

Media, Trailers

With the announcement that James Cameron would be shooting two sequels to Avatar back to back for 2014 and 2015 releases, there’s also been speculation on other projects that have James Cameron attached in some capacity.

Recently it was announced that Laeta Kalogridis had signed on to write the remake of Fantastic Voyage, a feature where Cameron serves as producer.

Another feature that Cameron has produced, and one I had no prior knowledge of until recently, is Sanctum, a film inspired by true events. Directed by Alister Grierson (Kokoda), the picture is based on a team of spelunkers in Australia whose lives are jeopardized by extreme weather conditions. The drama was written by Andrew Wight and John Garvin. Wight collaborated with Cameron on his award-winning docs Aliens of the Deep and Ghosts of the Abyss.

Arriving on February 4, 2011, the film will be released in both 2D and 3D. However, the 3D is not just a conversion of the 2D presentation. Sanctum incorporates the same technology Cameron used for Avatar.
