Casting Begins For Valentine’s Day Follow Up New Year’s Eve

Casting News, News

The movie Valentine’s Day proved that no amount of talented actors can save a trite romantic comedy from its own script. New Line, not one to know when to say when, has begun casting for New Year’s Eve, a thematic follow-up to this year’s star-studded romantic comedy.

Like Valentine’s Day, the film will take place in a 24-hour period and will intertwine an ensemble cast of high-profile actors. Actors being perused include Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Michelle Pfeiffer and Hilary Swank.

De Niro would play a hospitalized man in his final days. While it’s not know if Kutcher would reprise his role from Valentine’s Day, he is earmarked to play a man who hates the holiday. Pfeiffer is being sought for a businesswoman trying to finish her years’ resolutions and Hillary Swank would play the producer of the Time Square holiday show.

Abigail Breslin and Lea Michele had previously been named to appear in the movie in unspecified roles. Production will begin soon with a release date timed for the end of 2011.

If you’re looking for a fun New Year’s Eve-themed comedy in the meantime, why not check out the 1999 film 200 Cigarettes, an underrated movie set in the early ’80s that starred Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Dave Chappelle, Janeane Garofalo, Kate Hudson, Courtney Love, Jay Mohr, Christina Ricci and Paul Rudd.
