Emma Stone Jumping Out of 21 Jump Street

Casting News, News, Projects

Prior to getting the role of Gwen Stacy in the rebooted Spider-Man franchise, Emma Stone was rumored to be joining the cast of the TV-to-big-screen adaptation of the ’80s series, 21 Jump Street. But because of being cast as Gwen, Stone will be unable to be a part of the adaptation of the TV show that made Johnny Depp a teen heartthrob. (Sony Pictures is producing both films.)

In a recent chat with MTV, where the network bestowed Stone as the actress they’re most thankful for in 2010, she acknowledged that she won’t “be a part of [21 Jump Street], but Jonah is one of my favorite people in the entire world.”

But as Emma Stone leaves the project, it looks like Channing Tatum has signed on.

While I am disappointed that Emma Stone won’t be in 21 Jump Street, I think I’m more mortified that Tatum is.

Though, Stone will be just fine. It looks like Sony Pictures is trying to make her into a star, as if she were on contract with the studio. Of the eight films she has been a part of already, four have been released by Sony Pictures. And if you add the Spider-Man reboot, Friends with Benefits and the announced comedy with her and Easy A director Will Gluck, that’ll make eight.
