Mark Wahlberg Confirms He Is Nathan Drake in Uncharted

Casting News, News

When it was reported that David O. Russell, director of Three Kings and most recently The Fighter would be directing an adaptation of the best-selling PS3 game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, the biggest question was who would be playing the hero, Nathan Drake?

MTV got the answer in a recent interview with Mark Wahlberg, doing his publicity tour for The Fighter.

Wahlberg said that O. Russell had begun writing the adaptation and that “the idea he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”

Such news is sure to disappoint the Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Castle) fan club, since the actor is the spitting image of Nathan Drake (and he was lobbying for the job).

Other rumors have surfaced regarding casting. O. Russell was eyeing Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro for the film, to which Wahlberg confirmed in the interview segment. He has spoken to Pesci, who pretty much retired after Lethal Weapon 4 in 1998, but did appear in Robert De Niro’s second directorial feature, The Good Shepherd and this year’s Love Ranch with Helen Mirren.

Now that we have an answer to who will play Nathan Drake, we are offered new questions: what involvement would Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro have with the story?

It looks like David O. Russell is delving further into Nathan Drake’s history as De Niro and Pesci would play Drake’s father and uncle respectively. I actually like that O. Russell is enriching the story of the mythos of Drake’s character since his relatives have never been part of the video games.
