AMC’s Walking Dead Cuts Its Writing Staff

News

Deadline is reporting that director Frank Darabont has gone ahead and cut his entire writing team for his smash hit show on AMC, The Walking Dead. Sounds totally arrogant, right? Well, he also is apparently considering going forward with season two using freelancers only. Insane, right?

Well, apparently with the six episodes of the first season, Darabont personally wrote the first two episodes, and did re-writes on the other four. Then, out of those four, only two were even written by staff writers, as the other two were written by Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, as well as producer Glen Mazzara. So, I mean, two out of six episodes written by the writing staff, I can totally understand why they might consider just going the freelancer route.

The Writers Guild probably won’t, but hey, you can’t argue with the way the show is finding success. And given how successful Walking Dead has been, well, hard to argue.
