Monday Morning Backlash: Nominees and Who Should Win on the WWE Slammy Awards Raw 2010 (John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista)

Columns, Top Story

Here are the nominees, along with who I think should and will win.

Superstar of the Year: (which you can vote for by clicking here).

Randy Orton
Edge
Rey Mysterio
John Cena
Kane
The Miz

Who should win: Of the list, Randy Orton is the Superstar of the Year. His emergence has allowed the WWE to take risks it couldn’t when Cena was the sole top drawing face. He has become one of the two most over performers in the company and given the Cena haters someone to latch on to. Is the match quality elite? No, but no one on the group above’s have been except maybe Rey and his presence and ability have outstripped everyone on the list but Cena,

Who will win: John Cena will win. Kids tend to vote most on these kinds of polls and they love Cena, who’s never been hotter than the Nexus feud. I wouldn’t argue that he shouldn’t win, either, between the stellar Batista feud and the always interesting Nexus feud.

Shocker of the Year:

The Miz cashes in Money in the Bank and becomes WWE Champion
John Cena is forced to joined The Nexus
The Nexus takes out Mr. McMahon
Paul Bearer turns on The Undertaker

What should win: Nexus taking out Vince was huge and unexpected, especially him taking the 450. Nexus’ original assault on Raw should really win, but isn’t even nominated.

What will win: So that Nexus and Cena don’t run the entire show, and so Miz has something to crow about, his Money in the Bank win will get him on stage to talk trash and, hopefully, be attacked by Orton.

Knucklehead Moment of the Year:

Big Show unmasks CM Punk
Santino Marella gets out-danced by Vladimir Koslov
Beth Phoenix eliminates Great Khali from the Royal Rumble
LayCool gets beaten by Mae Young

What should win: Beth Phoenix eliminating Khali was a great moment and if we won’t go with Punk’s epic Rumble promo, then I guess i can go with that.

What will win: I’m honestly unsure. This seems like an excuse to inject some comedy into the proceedings, though, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Santino/Koslov win. Given the title, Big Show could win just to get some face-time for the movie.

Despicable Me Award:

CM Punk singing “Happy Birthday” to Rey Mysterio’s daughter
Sheamus attacks Triple H with a led pipe while Triple H is talking about Shawn Michaels
The Nexus attacks Ricky Steamboat and WWE Legends
Kane buries The Undertaker alive

What should win: CM Punk singing “Happy Birthday” to Rey’s daughter was incredibly creepy and should win, without any question.

What will win: Nexus need a moment, so they get it here… unless they want to bring back Hunter by having him attack Sheamus for winning this award.

Holy %&^*%&* Move of the Year:

Kofi Kingston hits Drew McIntyre with a leg drop off a ladder through the announce table
John Cena sends Batista onto a car and through the stage with two Attitude Adjustments
Randy Orton hits Evan Bourne with an RKO while he was hitting a Shooting Star Press
John Morrison dives off set onto Daniel Bryan and The Miz

What should win: There’s no way anything touches Orton’s RKO counter to the SSP. That’s move of the year, especially given that Orton really isn’t winning anywhere else.

What will win: Orton’s RKO will win.

Guest Star Shining Moment of the Year:

Mike Tyson punches out Chris Jericho
Pee-Wee Herman vs. The Miz
Florence Henderson kisses The Great Khali
William Shatner sings WWE Entrances

What should win: Shatner singing the entrances was hilarious. There was a lot of good stuff, but that was great.

What will win: Tyson, who Vince is still grateful to for Wrestlemania 15, and Jericho gets his shout-out for being the best wrestler in the world when he was active.

“Oh Snap” Meltdown of the Year:

Big Show destroys Jack Swagger’s trophies
Edge destroys the RAW GM’s laptop
Alberto Del Rio injures Rey Mysterio’s arm with a steel chair
Batista quits WWE

What should win: Batista quitting WWE was huge and robbed the company of a main event player for half-a-decade who took years to build up.

What will win: The awards have been exceedingly Raw-centric thus far, so time for a Smackdown star to get an award… for a Raw moment. Edge destroying the Raw GM Laptop is the winner.

Diva of the Year:

To be determined by a Diva Battle Royal.

What should and will win: With half of the Diva roster hurt for most of the year, LayCool carried the division and can team up for the battle royal to get the award they deserve.

WWE Moment of the Year:

Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels shake hands
The Nexus debuts and attacks John Cena
The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels in Michael’s final match
Kane wins Money in the Bank and cashes in the same night

What should win: As awesome as Nexus’ assault was, it actually seems as if HBK will stay retired.

What will win: Come on, do you really see awards without HBK and Undertaker taking one home?
