Kue’s Korner: Narrowing Down WWE’s Nexus

Columns, Top Story

Greetings, captive audience. I hope you’re all enjoying the gift-wrapped inching towards the end of the holiday season. I’m your handsome devil of a columnist, Jonah Kue, here to treat you to some personal insight to our wonderful world of rasslin’. Before I divulge, however, don’t mind my bit of self-exploitation. If my literary grace entices you, you can read my blog (wrestling and otherwise)  on http://jonahkue.blogspot.com. And, for my less-than-140-character musings, follow me via twitter @jonahkue. Now, on to the main event.

Hello, narrative tactics and storylines 101. What does one cross into once they’ve waded through the loud cheers and bright lights of what we call a climax? Ah, that’s right, the falling actions. So, am I right to say we’re at the conclusion of this rather successful angle holstering the Nexus gang and our favorite Laker-colored Marine? Seems that way.

Let’s face it, fellow ringinites, the climax of this angle (the initiation of Cena into Nexus and his inevitable firing) has been rather anticlimactic. But it is a climax nonetheless. Now that we’re nearing the end of this little grudge, let’s reflect a bit. What have we gained from the exchange?

Obviously, Cena’s been more enticing as a character than he has been in years. But will he come out of this feud a changed man? Good character development is key in determining a good story, particularly for the protagonist. Can we say that we’ll see that in Cena? Pardon my doubts. At least we saw a chance, right, folks?

Our pristine prize from this angle is going to be the push of Wade Barrett. Through Cena, Barrett has been established. Now, whether Nexus breaks or stays, our prominent wearer of the N-christened shirt will be just fine even without the yellow and black.

Now, here’s the curveball. I have faith in David Otunga. I know, greener than gummy worm induced vomit (sorry, first analogy that came to mind). Thing is, a certain “awesome” champion started off the same way. Otunga has proven the goods on the mic. He’s played his role and played it well. All that is needed is time for him to learn to define his in ring capabilities. Now, whether he’ll do that or not remains to be seen. But, and call this gentleman a fool, I feel that our disproportionate rebel will come through.

So, as far as the angle in it’s entirety? Short term, good stuff. Long term, we’ve gotten a new main eventer and a few potentially good mid-carders. Prof. Kue would call this a passing grade. Class dismissed, ladies and gents.

I like my wrestling almost as much as I do my coffee. And I do love my coffee, as you can tell how much it's affected my skin tone.
