Miguel Cotto Readies For Return

News

While nothing has been made official, it looks as though Miguel Cotto will be returning to the ring on March 12. A fight between Cotto, WBA Light Middleweight champion, and Ricardo Mayorga, former welterweight and light middleweight champion, has been proposed for March 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Cotto will be leaving for Florida to begin his training camp in early January, according to Fightnews.com.

Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs) last fought in June of 2010, his first fight at 154 pounds and his first fight with Emmanuel Steward. Cotto won the WBA title from Yuri Foreman in the main event of the first fight card to be held at Yankee Stadium in over 30 years.

Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KOs) was a recent KO winner over Michael Walker on December 17. It was Mayorga’s first fight in a boxing ring in two years. A former world champion in two weight classes, Mayorga attempted a run at MMA in 2010 but he was contractually cockblocked by Don King and never stepped inside the cage.
