Rumor: Javier Bardem and Viggo Mortenson Frontrunners for The Dark Tower

News, Rumors

Ron Howard is hard at work prepping for the upcoming multimedia adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series of books. The project would combine several films with a couple of television series to properly tell the complete story.

Now, the New York Post is reporting that Javier Bardem is the frontrunner for the lead role of Roland Deschain with Viggo Mortensen a close second.

Earlier this month Ron Howard spoke to the LA Times and dropped a few names of his own including Mortenson, Daniel Craig and Jon Hamm.

It is not known how extensive a role these potential actors are looking at. With several sequels and television seasons planned from the get go, any actor who commits to The Dark Tower could be looking at nearly a decade’s worth of work.

Who do you think would make a great Roland? Being more of a The Stand junkie than a Dark Tower fan, I’m curious on who will be cast for Roland Flagg.
