NFL News: Dallas Cowboys Keep Jason Garrett As Head Coach

News

Both Garrett and Leslie Frazier have kept the job they originally got on an interm basis.

The Dallas Cowboys announced that Jason Garrett would have the interm tag removed and be named the official head coach on Thursday afternoon. Terms of the contract weren’t immediately available, however, Garrett had one year left on his offensive coordinator contract that paid him $3.5 million for the upcoming year.

Garrett led the Cowboys to a 5-3 record down the stretch after the Cowboys fired head coach Wade Phillips once the team started out 1-7.

The deal was done quickly in part because Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn’t want to give other teams a chance to interview and possibly lure away Garrett.
