Judd Apatow’s Next Movie To Be Knocked Up Spin-Off

Casting News, News, Projects

Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann will star in director Judd Apatow’s next, currently untitled film. The movie is set for release June 1, 2010. Rudd and Mann, who is married in real life to Apatow, will reprise their roles as a married couple from Apatow’s 2007 film Knocked Up.

In an interview with HitFix, Apatow confirmed the film would not be a sequel or prequel to his earlier film. Instead, the movie is just another story featuring the two characters and their problems. Despite the fact that the movie is not a direct sequel, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Knocked Up stars Seth Rogen or Katherine Heigl could make an appearance in the movie (the fact that Heigl has publicly criticized Apatow’s film since its release makes her inclusion less likely).

In the same interview with HitFix, Apatow teased that some fun details had yet to be released. Feel free to speculate away as to what these details might be. I’ll go ahead and throw some chum into the water to get the speculation frenzy going. Could other characters from previous Apatow movies be returning? Personally, I’d love to see Apatow team up with Romany Malco again or possibly bring back a character from his series Undeclared.

My dream Apatow project, though, would be a movie set during a ten-year reunion featuring the cast and characters of Freaks and Geeks. While that probably won’t happen anytime soon, I have to say the idea of a full-length film featuring the wonderful chemistry shown by Rudd and Mann seems very promising.
