Charlize Theron, who recently dropped out of the running for Clint Eastwood’s biopic about J. Edger Hoover, is reportedly being sought to star in Ridley Scott’s upcoming prequel to Alien.
For the film’s main character, Scott is still seeking to cast Scandinavian actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) but Fox is hoping to offer to Theron a role that had Scott had originally had Michelle Yeoh in mind for. The role is being rewritten this week to beef up the part and make it more attractive to somebody of Theron’s acting stature.
Michael Fassbender is still in negotiations to join the cast as one of the series’ trademark androids.
There’s been a lot of rumors floating around the internet as to what, exactly, Scott’s prequels will be about. Some of the rumors, including new aliens who use humans in the same way humans use cows, make me hopeful that this film will not only rejuvenate the Alien franchise but also rejuvenate Scott’s directing career. Theron is a fine actress and, if she should join, will be great alongside Rapace and Fassbender.
