Weinstein Company Signs Distribution Deal for Cogan’s Trade

News, Projects

Cogan’s Trade, the Andrew Dominik film, which we’ve been talking about for months, most recently added Sam Rockwell.

Now Deadline is reporting that The Weinstein Company has acquired the domestic distribution rights to this adaptation of the George V. Higgins novel.

Brad Pitt stars as title character, Jackie Cogan, a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a high stakes poker game held under the protection of the mob.

Production will commence at the end of February with the likelihood that TWC will have it in wide release in the first quarter of 2012.

The more I hear about this project the more excited I become. The role would be such a departure for Pitt from recent roles. Though maybe I’m waxing nostalgia at the thought that Pitt will play a character that is near that of Chili Palmer in Get Shorty.

I’m loving the addition of Rockwell and Casey Affleck and James Gandolfini has been rumored to be joining the cast as well.
