Rumor: TRON Sequel On The Way

News, Projects, Rumors

Harry Knowles of Ain’t It It Cool News is reporting that industry insiders are whispering of a soon-to-be announced sequel to TRON: Legacy. The recent Disney film, itself a sequel to the ’80s computer-set fantasy film starring Jeff Bridges, is reported to have made nearly $300 million already — making it a financial success for the studio. Add up the merchandise, eventual DVD and Blu-ray sales and an upcoming television show spin-off and Disney has a certifiable hit on their hands.

Knowles says to expect a formal announcement soon but it should come as no surprise. The small cameo from Cillian Murphy as the son of the original movie’s villain is an obvious set-up for future films in the series. Knowles says there is already a plan in place for keeping the series alive and out of another 20+ year hibernation.

What do you think? Are you ready to jump back into the mainframe and see the continued adventures of Sam Flynn or the return of TRON? While the sequel may not have hit the spot for a lot of fans, there are just as many young kids who seemed to have really dug the new film. And hey, if a sequel means another score from Daft Punk, is there anybody who’s not down with that?
