Brothers & Sisters – Episode 5-13 Review

Reviews, Shows

Brothers & Sisters celebrates its 100th episode by bringing home a long-absent sibling, and welcoming a couple new members in the family. Tommy returns for good, but he’s bringing her strange fiance with him, while Nora and Saul look forward to meeting Olivia.

Continuing from last week, Dr. Rick has stepped up his game, showing off whenever he can to win Annie back. And Justin’s definitely not happy about it. which he childishly makes perfectly clear every time the doctor gets in his face. Of course, Dr. Rick is a douche, but Justin seems like a crybaby whenever he whines to Annie about her ex’s behavior. Justin really shouldn’t have let it get to him so easily. Granted, it turns out he had every right to be upset since Annie does leave him for Dr. Rick, but it’s hard to feel bad for Justin when he was such a wimp.

Meanwhile, Olivia stays with Kevin and Scotty for the weekend, who go a little overboard trying to make her feel at home. They give her a cell phone from Nora, and take her shopping, but she still isn’t happy. Eventually the guys realize what Olivia’s problem is – she can’t read. It’s a sweet storyline that gives us a taste of what Kevin and Scotty will be like as parents.

Soon after Tommy’s arrival, he and Sarah start having issues. When he asks for money towards a real estate venture, she refuses because the matter is out of her hands. Then she becomes upset because she starts thinking that this is the only reason he flew down to visit his family, who he’s barely kept in contact with.

But she’s proved wrong when Tommy announces he’s engaged to an annoyingly pushy woman he’s known for six months, Rose. Her greatest desire is to be part of the Walker family, but she comes on way too strong. Sarah texts Kevin “she’s weird,” and I totally agree. There’s definitely some ulterior motive to her obsession with the Walker family, and I can’t wait to find out what her story is. Could she be the Walkers’ newest enemy?

After the big family dinner blow out, Sarah apologizes to Tommy and invites him to help her run her radio stations. He then asks Rose if she wants to move back into town, and oddly enough she says yes with barely any hesitation. However, the big reveal is in the last few minutes of the episode, when Rose and Tommy discover that Nora and William lied to the siblings about their anniversary date. The insinuation is that Nora was pregnant.

(It’s worth noting that Kitty is missing in the show’s 100th episode. Personally, she was never my favorite character, so this doesn’t bother me.)

Now’s the time to start guessing where the show is going with this. Given what was discovered about Nora’s previous relationship, is it going to be revealed that Sarah isn’t a Walker after all? Or are we going to find out that Nora lost a baby, maybe Brody’s, before she had Sarah? (For those trying to figure out the year Sarah was born, I wouldn’t bother with this show’s consistency issues.)

After a slow first half, Brothers & Sisters season five finally heats up with an intriguing mystery and possible new villain. No word yet on when the next episode airs.
