Kue’s Korner: Thoughts Jumbled Before the WWE Royal Rumble

Columns, Top Story

Hello, lovely people. And welcome to Kue’s Korner, where there are no exposed turnbuckles whatsoever. Well, that may be a lie. I’m your gracious and gleaming host, Jonah Kue. This week was a bit difficult, if I may be honest, to pick a particular topic to write on. So, like any decent columnist would do, I simply wrote on them all. You’re welcome. So, let’s get on with the pre-article whoring, shall we?

It’s a rarity that ambiguity hits the collective community of us smarks. Call this Hailey’s Comet, my friends. I know we’ve all got our predictions, and a good basis behind them (for the most part), but do we even have an inkling of a majority consensus when it comes to Wrestlemania predictions? Yeah, we’ve basically narrowed down the Rumble winners to an elite five (Cena, Punk, Barrett, Triple H, Del Rio), but where they go from there is, quite substantially, anybody’s guess. And I love that. There’s an element of surprise in the air that’s been missing for a good portion of the last few years, and it not only makes for good storytelling, but a sense of excitement that can finally be enjoyed by non-marks.

This past Monday brought us a rather good episode of Raw. Despite being cut short, Morrison and Bryan put on a good match and showed that, if given a program, they really have the chemistry to carry it out. Ziggler seemed like a legitimate main eventer in his match with Orton. His in-ring performance is probably the most strategic out of all the wrestlers in ‘E, and while his push as No.1 contender may be temporary (though, I hope it lingers for a good part of the year), he definitely looks like he deserves to be there. Plus, if anybody’s caught his impromptu mic usage on NXT, then you know the kid is built with charisma.

Speaking of Orton, he’s finally seen as a challenger for the first time in his feud with Miz. Yes, he’s established and Miz is seen as a ‘rookie’ champ, but the Miz attack on Orton helped set two things. One is that Miz, through his ambition to prove that he is a deserving champ, is willing and able to be vicious. The other is that, whenever Orton does get some retribution (whether it be winning the title back at the Rumble or another form), it seems that much more meaningful. To be metaphoric, Orton went from swatting a fly to trying to swat a,..more….volatile animal….(this metaphor usage is based on the presumption that we have no PETA members as Inside Pulse followers……nervous gulp).

Cena is playing his role very well. Punk is a natural at his gimmick, so, I’ll pass on the redundant complements. And honestly, the “CM Sucks” promos did little to boost my confidence about Cena’s potential in this little feud. However, our lavender-laden grappler is doing a fine job supporting both his and Punk’s roles with, not only his promos, but his in-ring performance as well. The match with Punk was exemplary of this. The fact that Cena, at times, carried a surprised look on his face when Punk kicked out somewhat validated his earlier promos that basically made our Straight Edge leader a joke to him. With Punk more than holding his own, and Cena wearing that surprised notion on his face, it’s assumed that the latter will have no choice but to take the former more seriously than he did before, and thus shaping the crowd’s consensus similarly as well. This feud is simply meant to pick up even more steam.

With all this said, I leave on a simple notion that, if shared by most ‘rasslin’ viewers, spells success for the company: I’m intrigued.

Adieu.

I like my wrestling almost as much as I do my coffee. And I do love my coffee, as you can tell how much it's affected my skin tone.
