Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Talks to Join The Dark Knight Rises

Casting News, News, Projects

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who saw his visibility skyrocket in the summer tentpole release Inception, looks like he’ll be next to join the cast of The Dark Knight Rises. If that is indeed the case, the actor would be in good company since he’ll be reuniting not only with director Christopher Nolan but with co-stars Tom Hardy and Michael Caine.

As of this week Nolan says they are twelve weeks away from starting production. Deadline, who broke the story about Gordon-Levitt, could not speculate to the role that he would play, but ensures that he’ll be among the cast when cameras roll in the spring.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has established himself in quality indie flicks like Brick, The Lookout and (500) Days of Summer, and I’ve been an ardent supporter of his work ever since Mysterious Skin.

He’ll next be seen in Hesher, releasing in spring, and has two films currently in post-production. Live With It is a film where he co-stars with Seth Rogen and Anna Kendrick, and is the story about a 27-year-old guy’s cancer diagnosis, and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease. In Premium Rush, Joseph plays a bike messenger being pursued through the streets of New York City. (You may remember the video we posted about an injury he suffered on set.) Currently, he’s filming Looper with Brick director Rian Johnson.

Christopher Nolan, who always plays his cards close to his chest, hasn’t given many details about The Dark Knight Rises, which he says will finish the story they want to tell of the Batman character, but did recently disclose in a studio press announcement that Anne Hathaway would play Selina Kyle (a.k.a. Catwoman) as well as to what role Tom Hardy would play. He’ll play the villain Bane.

So what role do you think Gordon-Levitt will play? Hero? Villain? Hope to God it isn’t Robin.
