Great news for my fellow Booster fans, as well as for fans of the always awesome Dan Jurgens, starting in May with #44, Dan returns once again to the pages of Booster Gold! With the events of Time Masters: Vanishing Point in the books, Jurgen is left without a title, and given that he spent the mini building up Booster and Rip while Booster’s title (which he left not that long ago) has been drifting into obscurity (JLI team ups? Really?), his announced return to the pages of Booster Gold is cause for celebration!
The writer/artist is also the creator of Booster, and as far as I’m concerned, the best man for the job when it comes to writing him. But how much of Giffen and DeMatteis’s short run will he be referencing? Namely, is Rani going to be sticking around? Introduced in the beginning of their run, she’s a 31st century refugee that Booster took in rather than allow her to die during the early days of the Great Darkness Saga. Since then she’s taken to referring to Rip as ‘boppy’, views Booster’s sister Michelle as someone who doesn’t fully appreciate him, and despite that he views her like a surrogate child he didn’t ask for, she has a major crush on Booster. As of one of the more recent issues, she’s even tried out being Goldstar with humorous results. Keep her around.
It’s so relieving to know that Jurgens is going to get to continue his recent Time Masters work, especially inside the pages of Booster Gold. He’s one of the best writers, and easily one of the best artists to ever tackle the character, and there really is no downside to him returning to the character he created.
And hey, not only is he coming back, but they’re jumping head first into Flashpoint!
You might even say it’s….Boosterific!
