Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that Sophia Coppola’s latest film, Somewhere will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on April 19.
Starring Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning, Somewhere is a introspective rumination on fatherhood and being a celebrity with superb performances from both the leads.
Dorff plays Johnny Marco, an actor who seems to have lost himself in the glitz and glamor of Hollywood and has hid himself away at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles to get away from it all. His lackadaisical plans get smashed when his 11 year old daughter Cleo (Fanning) shows up unexpectedly for a visit.
Personally, I found this film to be very fascinating and enjoyable. It seems very influenced by Jim Jarmusch, taking its time to let the scenes simmer. It immerses the audience in Marco’s life, the good and the bad.
So far the only announced special feature is the documentary “Making Somewhere.”
