Farrelly Brother Hints At Dumb and Dumber Sequel

News, Projects

The Farrelly Brothers may not have had an unqualified hit on their hands with last weekend’s release Hall Pass (read a review here) but that hasn’t stopped the two brothers from surging forth with new projects.

The writer/director duo responsible for There’s Something About Mary, Kingpin and Shallow Hal are currently in preproduction on a new theatrical tribute to The Three Stooges — a movie they are currently casting. Now, though, Bob Farrelly has hinted that a sequel to the siblings’ breakout 1994 movie Dumb and Dumber could be in the not-so-distant future.

“[Dumb and Dumber] has run a bunch of times on TV in the states, and kids will come up and they’ll be able to quote lines from that – lines that I’ve long forgotten,” Farrelly is quoted at Moviehole. “If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion. We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel.”

Dumb and Dumber had previously spawned a prequel with Eric Christian Olsen and Derek Richardson playing the original film’s dimwitted duo as high school students. An animated television show produced by Hanna Barbera was also produced shortly after the original film’s release.
