Peter Weller Pleads To Detroit For Robocop Statue

Media, News, Video

Most probably already know by now of the effort by a group of Detroit citizens to erect a statue dedicated to the legendary crimefighter that was part man, part machine, all cop — Robocop.

Born from a tweet to Detroit’s mayer Dave Bing, the idea has grown momentum in recent weeks — with a plan put together to acquire the fundings necessary to bring to life the dream of a Robocop statue. Now, Peter Weller, star of Robocop, has joined the fight — releasing a video on Funny or Die where he makes several damn fine points about why a Robocop statue is necessary to keep Detroit relevant — and free from crime.

MGM recently announced plans to resume production on their proposed remake of Robocop — a project that Academy Award nominated director Darren Aronofsky was attached to. Could 2011 be the year of Robocop? Let’s hope so.
