Total Recall Remake Looking For A Few Good Women

Casting News, News

Sony Pictures is scouring Hollywood for the two major female roles for its remake of the 1990 film Total Recall, originally starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. First, there is the role of Lori, who plays Douglas Quaid’s doting wife, a real Susie Homemaker type but athletically fit. In Paul Verhoeven’s film the role helped launch Sharon Stone’s career, to which she made the most of, lighting up a cigarette and uncrossing her legs in Basic Instinct (also a Verhoeven film). She may have not had tiger’s blood or become a warlock, but her character Lori did transform into the bride from hell. Mike Fleming from Deadline is reporting that Kate Bosworth (Blue Crush, Superman Returns) and Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) are reading for the role.

Both could work, but Diane Kruger would look good opposite Colin Farrell, who has been cast in the Douglas Quaid role (previously played by Schwarzenegger).

The other role is that of Melina, originally played by Rachel Ticotin, Douglas Quaid’s fantasy girl who, at first, is reluctant to help him on planet Mars. Actresses reading for that part include Eva Mendes and Paula Patton. Others being rumored for contention for Melina are Jessica Biel and Eva Green.

If Eva Mendes doesn’t get the role of Melina, she’s also being considered for the role of Lori.

For Colin Farrell this will be his second high profile remake after Fright Night, which is based on a 1985 comedy-horror release by the same name. He headlines the Craig Gillespie pic (Lars and the Real Girl) along with David Tennant, Anton Yelchin, Toni Collette and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. That film will have a late summer bow on August 19th.
