Sometimes it can take years for a film project to get off the ground, whereas the turnaround on television is relatively quick. As is the case with Snitch, an action thriller that had been set up at New Line as far back as October 2006. That following August, Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress, Out of Time) was hired to direct.
Four years later, there’s some new movement. The project will now be written and directed by Ric Roman Waugh. Waugh is a former stuntman who transitioned to the director’s chair, having previously helmed Felon starring Val Kilmer and Stephen Dorff.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will headline.
Based on a Frontline documentary, the story concerns a suburban father (Johnson) who goes undercover in the drug world when his son is sent to jail for 30 years after being set up in a drug transaction.
Johnson will next be seen in the April release Fast Five for Universal, followed by Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
