The O’Really Report – WrestleMania The Real Rundown feat Sheamus, Undertaker, Cena, The Miz, The Rock

Columns, Top Story

Didn’t you hear? WrestleMania skipped this year!  For the first time in 27 years, there was no WrestleMania!  Instead what we got was a sad PPV with a bunch of stories just starting instead of finishing.  Depressing I know.  Just think of all of that money that was spent by the world to watch one of the worst WrestleManias ever.  But enough of the complaining… Welcome ladies and gents and children of all ages to your Weekly Wednesday Stop for all things Wrestling or Entertainment I should say.  This is The O’Really Report and I am your faithful host Rhett The RAD Davis.  (Yeah so I gave myself a nickname, that’s permitted in wrestling no? The Viper, Rattlesnake, the Snake, Superfly, The Immortal, etc) So I guess it’s time to do some self-promotion:

Today I come to you to speak of WrestleMania.  Yes yes, I know you as readers are probably sick and tired of hearing about that PPV. (especially if you bought it) But divulge me a second.  If you had the opportunity to shape and mold this past WrestleMania, what would you have done different?  The topic of this column today is what could’ve happened on 04.03.2011.

Dark Match:  United States Championship Four-Way-Dance (Elimination):  Daniel Bryan vs Zack Ryder vs William Regal vs R-Truth

This is just here for those hardcore technical wrestling fans.  R-Truth is only there to add another person.  Using this match they could either build up Ryder or Bryan.  Give them 10 minutes and they would tear the house down… eliminating Truth early of course.  I’d pick Daniel Bryan here just appease the IWC part of the WWE audience.

Match #1:  Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterios

The only match on the card that I believed was done right all the way around.  I can’t really picture how this match could have been done any better.  Maybe a few more high risk moves, but hey it made Cody look phenomenal so it did it’s job.

Match #2:  Money In the Bank Ladder Match:  Evan Bourne vs John Morrison vs Dolph Ziggler vs Justin Gabriel vs Heath Slater vs Kofi Kingston vs Kane vs Santino Marrella

Forget WWE with their PPV gimmicks.  With such a young core (pardon) of wrestlers, it’s a crime not to have a MITB Ladder Match at Mania.  I’m all for them moving it to its own PPV but this was not the year for that move.  I mean this is a creative relaxer for the creative staff so why wouldn’t they want it?    Corre could try to team up and steal the MITB briefcase only for Kane to shut them down.  Kofi could decide to give up his I-C title rematch to go after the MITB briefcase.  Evan Bourne can be there to take nasty bumps and to provide some HOLY S*** moments.  Santino could provide some humor to the match and even rumor grabbing the case before someone like Dolph knocks him down.  Dolph and JoMo would be the two favorites to win and could at the end be fighting on top of the ladder for it. As for the winner, it really needed to be John Morrison instead of him being an afterthought in the Snooki match.

Match #3:  Intercontinental Championship Fatal-4-Way:  Wade Barrett vs Christian vs The Big Show vs Drew McIntyre

Yeah remember Drew McIntyre?  The Chosen One?  Yeah Vince doesn’t either.  I haven’t heard of the boy in recent weeks, but throwing this match together ala the two 4-way tag matches at WrestleMania XX wouldn’t be a bad match and would create some intrigue.  As for the winner well that could be one of the two first men.  Big Show doesn’t need it and his Mania record is shot to heck anyways.  Drew’s already just got a loss so another wouldn’t really blemish his.  Wade on the other hand has never fought at Mania and would benefit from coming out on top.  Then again Christian just came back and would do well with a title around his waist.  It could very easily go either way, but I’ll say Wade retains by Wastelanding Big Show for the 1-2-3.

Match #4:  Randy Orton vs CM Punk

No complaints with this match either and I couldn’t think of anything for these two men to be doing instead except for a possible Nexus/Corre battle which never happened.  Orton won as he should’ve being the new face on the block and the future face of the company. So they say.

Match #5:  Jack Swagger vs Lawler (Special Referee: Stone Cold Steve Austin)

This match should have taken the place of Cole vs Lawler.  The Stipulation should have been how Cole tied into this. If King won his match then he would have gotten 5 minutes in the ring with Cole, but if Swagger won then King would have to move to SmackDown permanently.  It would have made a much more interesting match and really not drug out the whole Cold-can’t-wrestle angle so long.

Match #6:  World Heavyweight Championship:  Edge vs Alberto Del Rio

I loved this match, but Edge winning just soured this whole angle.  Why waste so much time building up del Rio as this superthreat if they were only going to have him lose all his credibility at WrestleMania?  I disagree with the direction of the match and the car thing was more like a Monday Night or Friday Night thing than a Sunday Night PPV.  I paid $55 to see wrestling not car vandalism.

Match #7:  Trish/Snooki/Eve vs LayCool/Vickie

I actually would have had Snooki as a managing personality like Cyndi Lauper at WrestleMania I, but that’s because I hate celebrities fighting at WrestleMania.  That match could be filled by someone of worth instead of some Hollywood celebrity that has absolutely no experience.  So anyways… it went from the possibilities of being a dream tag team match with Trish and Eve vs LayCool to just a joke with Snooki taking the pin on Layla or Vickie.

Match #8:  WWE Championship:  John Cena vs The Miz

As much as it sucked at WrestleMania, I felt it had some serious potential to be a great match.  However; Rock should have been out there since the beginning instead of coming down to reverse a decision.  Everyone knew he would get involved and I had no problem with Rocky getting involved, but that shouldn’t have been what finished off Cena.  It would have gone so much better if Miz had pinned him after the Rock Bottom and Cena kicked out.  Cena could then come back with his 5 Moves of Mediocrity (TM Andrew Wheeler) and still lose to the Skull Crushing Finale.  This way it gives Miz some credibility and it doesn’t have one of the biggest matches tainted… too much.

Match #9:  The Undertaker vs Sheamus vs Triple H

Yes I know it has Sheamus in the main event, but I would’ve had his storyline to get here go a little different.  Remember when Triple H came out and had a promo interrupted by Sheamus?  Well what if Sheamus instead had come out and DESTROYED Triple H?  It would’ve made sense considering he put Triple H out and he wants to redo what he did 10 months ago.  Then when The Undertaker came out for his promo, Sheamus could yet again interrupt his promo saying something like ‘Eye Fella, luk I wanna fitecha at Maynia kay? Kay.’ Then walk out leaving Undertaker seething.  This would start a triple threat match at WrestleMania (something Takers never done).  The match itself would be better than Sunday’s was because there would be the young Sheamus to take some of the bumps instead of the battered and beaten Triple H and Undertaker.  Sheamus could take the final Hell’s Gate and thus set-up a case for Triple H.  I could imagine him coming out the next Raw and say something like… ‘Okay Undertaker, you may be the Outlaw at WrestleMania but you didn’t beat me.  This isn’t over Deadman.  I’m coming to end your streak.’ Hence the next year’s WrestleMania is born!

Well I haven’t polled the audience in awhile, so how do you think WrestleMania should have gone?  What matches should have made the card instead of what actually went down?  Feel free to leave your comments and concerns in the section below.
