Boxing Rankings – Apr 2011

News

Three of our top ten will be in action in May in pivotal bouts. Check out our top 10 pound-for-pound boxers below.

Inside Fights Pound-for-Pound Rankings

1. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Last Month: 1
It has been 11 months since Floyd last fought, bouncers and security guards excluded. Without a fight lined up by next month, it will be time to remove Floyd from our list.

2. Manny Pacquiao
Last Month: 2
Shane Mosley awaits Manny on May 7 in Las Vegas. If Pacquiao’s political aspirations don’t distract him, a win over Mosley will propel Manny to the top spot.

3. Juan Manuel Marquez
Last Month: 3
Marquez is looking for a summer bout as his spring matchup with Erik Morales fell through. His only losses in the last five years were to Mayweather Jr and Pacquiao.

4. Sergio Martinez
Last Month: 4
Sergio continued his hot streak by handing Sergei Dzinziruk his first loss last month. Martinez knocked Dzinziruk down five times on his way to the TKO victory.

5. Bernard Hopkins
Last Month: 5
Hopkins gets a second chance at Jean Pascal on May 21. Their 2010 bout ended in a majority draw although Hopkins seemed to have outfought the younger champion.

6. Wladimir Klitschko
Last Month: 6
Don’t hold your breath, but Wladimir is talking about a summer bout with David Haye. Heard this song before. I’ll believe it when I see it.

7. Timothy Bradley
Last Month: 7
Bradley has a July 23 date for his next fight against an opponent yet to be named. Most hope that opponent will be fellow lightweight titlist Amir Khan.

8. Andre Ward
Last Month: 8
The semifinals of the Super Six kickoff on May 14 with Andre Ward and Arthur Abraham in California. A win puts Ward into the finals against the winner of Carl Froch and Glen Johnson.

9. Paul Williams
Last Month: 9
HBO is looking to bring Williams back in July although an opponent has yet to be named. No better time for a return bout with Kermit Cintron.

10. Vitali Klitschko
Last Month: 10
Vitali handed Odlanier Solis his first loss in less than three minutes. Vitali is quickly looking forward to his next bout which is likely to come against Tomasz Adamek.
