Fox Searchlight, or the “new Miramax” as I call it because of its stellar output from 1997 until now, has unveiled the first official trailer for The Art of Getting By at MTV.com. The film, which was previously titled Homework (the name change was made official this week), is about a high school slacker (Freddie Highmore) who befriends Emma Roberts. An official selection at Sundance this year, the film seems to be within Searchlight’s wheelhouse, picking up little features about characters, specifically young men, who have issues (see Win Win, Adam).
The Set-Up: George (Highmore), a lonely, fatalistic teen who’s made it all the way to his senior year without ever having done a day of work, is befriended by Sally (Roberts), a popular but complicated girl who recognizes in him a kindred spirit.
The Art Of Getting By, formerly known as Homework, was both written and directed by Gavin Wiesen, who’s making his feature debut. Besides Highmore and Roberts, Michael Angarano (Sky High, Red State) also stars.
Learn The Art of Getting By when Fox Searchlight opens it theatrically beginning on June 17th.
