Brothers & Sisters – Episode 5-20 Review

Reviews, Shows

After a lackluster season so far, Brothers & Sisters follows up the great episode “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” with the equally fantastic “Father Unknown.” While Kevin and Scotty try to find their baby, Nora and Justin must confirm Sarah’s questionable paternity in secret.

As the wedding approaches, Luc and Saul attempt to recruit the guys for a song they’ll surprise Sarah with at the wedding. But since Kevin and Scotty are in crisis mode, and Justin is stressed out as family secret-keeper, practice is difficult to schedule. The surprise falls apart when Sarah accuses Saul of trying to pressure Luc into a prenup, which she already refused. It’s a cute storyline, and I love the way Luc is so touched when he finds out that Sarah doesn’t want a prenup either. No doubt the “something blue” Saul gives Sarah, which used to belong to William, will be brought up again.

Meanwhile, Kevin and Scotty frantically try to track down Michelle and their stolen baby. Kevin’s furious, but Scotty doesn’t want to believe that his one-time friend has turned into a monster. Kevin has a meltdown when he discovers that Scotty has been talking to Michelle, his way of making sure she doesn’t run again. The guys make up when Olivia returns from a camping trip, and Kevin talks to Nora, but surprise – Michelle leaves the baby with Justin before taking off.

This twist actually does shock me. I was expecting at least another episode of going back and forth over the custody issue, but maybe the writers decided against that because of the similar Olivia storyline. And at first Michelle seems intent on staying in the baby’s life, but Kevin screaming at her must make her realize how much she’d hurt them. It will be interesting to see how the family adjusts to living with a new baby.

However, the biggest shock of all is the results of the paternity test. I honestly did not think the show would “de-Walker” Sarah. There was enough drama caused by just the speculation, that I thought maybe this would fade out. Or if they did a paternity test, it would be negative, then Nora and Brody could finally put the past behind them. (Of course, I have to throw in how much I enjoyed the Nora and Justin interaction this episode, as they tried to secretly get a test sample from Sarah’s room. Hilarious. Those two have had some great scenes lately.)

But for the show to really go there…wow. Poor Nora, the emotional pain never stops for her. The scene at the end with her and Saul is absolutely heartbreaking. I’m a little angry at Sarah for not wanting to connect with Brody, but it’s understandable since she views him as nothing but a liar, and has no idea what actually happened. While watching the next new episode, I will be hoping with my fingers crossed that Nora and Brody will finally get together for good.
