Brazilians Alexandre Ferreire and Rousimar Palhares expected to meet at UFC Rio

News

A fight that was originally scheduled for UFC on Versus 3 is now being worked on for the much more apt UFC Rio (aka UFC 134) as Alexandre Ferreire (18-7) and Rousimar Palhares (12-3) are expected to square off. The original fight between the two Brazilians was scrapped after Ferreire withdrew due to flooding in his native country. There were also reports that surfaced that he had been dismissed from his training camp and people began to wonder about his future in the sport. Their doubts, it would seem, were unfounded as he now looks to get back in the win column after a tough 1st round loss to Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 122.

Palhares will be looking to extend his win streak to two in the fight as he recently won a battle against Dave Branch at UFC on Versus 3 via his trademark kneebar. Prior to that he suffered a memorable loss to Nate Marquardt in the main event of Fight Night 22 in which he got knocked out while complaining to the ref that Marquardt’s legs were greased.

It is the 8th fight scheduled for that card and there has been no word on whether it will take place on the preliminary or main card.
