Brothers & Sisters – Episode 5-22 Review

Reviews, Shows

If “Walker Down the Aisle” does turn out to be the series finale, I wouldn’t really mind. Sarah’s wedding could end the series perfectly, with the Walkers for the most part living happily ever after.

What I personally loved about the episode was that the show doesn’t try to go overboard on the drama. Sure, there’s plenty of it, but the main focus was Sarah’s wedding, and her issues with Brody. After a season full of marriage and adoption problems, Kevin and Scotty stay in the background but contribute to the episode. Kevin is still the wedding planner, but one of my favorite aspects of the episode is how Olivia and Paige now call each other. They’re definitely the next generation of Walkers!

Justin and Saul also had their own story lines, but neither overshadowed the big day. Worrying that Tyler might still have a chance in her marriage, Justin doesn’t want to ruin that, and so backs off. But she surprises him at the wedding when she asks him to dance, knowing her co-workers at the hotel will hear about it. Meanwhile, Saul and Jonathan do damage control when the cake is a no show, spending the whole night alone together making cupcake after cupcake, all throughout arguing about their views on tradition. Despite his lack of faith in the concept of marriage, Jonathan asks Saul to marry him. Saul says yes, but at the episode’s end it’s still a secret – one of many twists for next season, if there is one.

Speaking of which, an unexpected twist to the episode is Kitty’s surprise pregnancy. Um, what?! After all the drama over being unable to have a baby, then adopting Evan, she’s pregnant on accident? The writers really couldn’t think of anything else for her? I don’t like this turn of events at all, partly because I know if there is a next season, there would be a ridiculous amount of problems to go along with it. At least if the show ends here we can imagine that everything went fine.

Now, I knew that someway, somehow, Brody’s exclusion from the wedding would be brought up. As predictable as it all was, I still love how she makes up with him, and he actually does walk her down the aisle. Plus, the conversation she had with him in the RV is fantastic, and she realizes that he never completely abandoned her. Everyone’s reaction to Sarah entering with Brody is priceless, especially Nora’s. The whole scene is so heartwarming. Plus I’m thrilled that Nora and Brody can finally be a happy couple after all they’ve been through.

I’m realizing that I’ve written this whole review without mentioning Luc once, which is sad since it’s his wedding. But his story line with his mother is a great side plot. I am also intrigued by Sarah’s newfound half-sister. Though not directly portrayed as a villain, Lori Lynn seems like she could eventually replace Holly as Walker nemesis. I’d be interested to see how Sarah and the rest of the Walkers would get along with her.

Since this might be my last Brothers & Sisters review, I’ll end with a question. Season six already has a ton of drama going for it – Kitty’s pregnancy, Saul and Jonathan’s engagement, the introduction of Lori Lynn. As a fan, do you want Brothers & Sisters to be renewed? Or do you want “Walker Down the Aisle” to be the series finale?
