Rasslin’ Roundtable — WWE Over the Limit

Features, Roundtables, Top Story

Chris Biscuiti brings his usual level of superior wisdom. Steven Gepp finds another creative way to rate these matches. Rhett Davis analyzes like Andrew Wheeler used to. Chris Sanders breaks it down. M.C. delivers a punch with each concise analysis. And me? Yeah, I’ll just go ahead and say “you’re welcome.”

Not sure if the action will be Over the Limit, but my blood alcohol level sure will be.

Randy Orton (c) vs Christian
World Heavyweight Title

Chris Biscuiti: So let me get this straight. Instead of letting Christian keep the Big Gold Belt for a couple of weeks, WWE hotshots the World Heavyweight Championship to Orton the very first chance they get and now the drama has been completely sucked out of this rematch. Good times.
Winner: Randy Orton

Kelly Floyd: People think this will be the match of the night, and I’m sure in theory it will be. Will it be executed properly? Probably not. And the finish will not leave a smile on anyone’s face. I see the hype swallowing this one whole until all we’re left with is a puddle of baby oil.
BAC: .07
Winner: Randy Orton

Steven Gepp: I had some sort of emotional investment in this when Christian won the title, and then they hot-shotted it off of him! And the fact that Orton is so clearly the favoured person (apparently misogyny, orange skin and an ability to thump the mat make you the heir apparent to Bruno Sammartino and Ric Flair) means this is the foregone conclusion match of the night.
Limits Seen: The limit of Orton’s offence, and the limited moveset Christian will be allowed to exhibit.
Winner: (as much as it pisses me off!) Orton

Rhett Davis: The Heartbreak storyline going on now is this and there are really only two possible ways in which this can go. Randal wins Sunday and drives Christian down into the lower cards and prepares adversaries to fight Orton. Or Randy can win and Christian become enraged at being so close and losing his last opportunity. Either way I’d rather Christian win and Randy prepare people to fight him… but that’s not going to happen to the Golden Boy.
Winner: Randal Keith Orton

Chris Sanders: After Orton took the belt just days after Christian won it, I don’t expect WWE to take the belt off him just yet but do expect some sort of turn from Christian. This has match of the night potential to me but based on sheer storyline, there’s not much interest here.
Winner: Randy Orton

M.C. Brown: Christian heel turn after he loses again.
Winner: Randy Orton

John Cena (c) vs The Miz
WWE Championship
“I Quit” Match

Chris Biscuiti: No way Miz makes Cena actually say “I Quit”, and I hope the speculation that they will go for the ridiculous Foley-Rock “tape recorder” finish is just a rumor. I hated it back then, and I’ll hate it now.
Winner: John Cena

Kelly Floyd: Don’t even get me started on this one. I nearly fell off the bar stool, I hung my head so hard. People can’t possibly expect Cena to say those two words (see: Breaking Point).
BAC: 1.7
Winner: John Cena

Steven Gepp: I am glad Miz is no longer the champ. You hear me? Glad, I say! However, I am not glad it is Cena. This match could be an okay spectacle, but I have absolutely no interest in either person as a character, “athlete” or “entertainer”.
Limits Seen: The limits of my interest in this.
Winner: Cena (just coz)

Rhett Davis: The more and more I think about this match, the more and more I think Miz could do some conniving and win. However, I really want this to end. I want Cena and Miz to move on to other feuds or at least add a dynamic to it. And Morrison added to the match did nothing for the feud. Therefore… I’m picking John Cena to win and make Miz ‘Quit’ and possibly wind up on SmackDown. Although I doubt it.
Winner: SuperCena

Chris Sanders: The moment this was made into an I Quit match, The Miz’s chances went out the window due to Cena never…ever losing a match like this. And with this pretty much being the final match of their feud, the lack of faces on Raw pretty much solidifies a Cena win.
Winner: Cena

M.C. Brown: Cena doesn’t lose until Rock screws him at Summer Slam.
Winner: John Cena

Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole
Kiss My Foot Match

Chris Biscuiti: Instead of this time-wasting horror show, I’d rather see a few minutes of Macho Man’s greatest WWF highlights, wouldn’t you? Rest in peace Randy Savage, you were a true inspiration and if it ever got built you certainly would belong on the Mount Rushmore of professional wrestling.
Winner: Jerry Lawler

Kelly Floyd: I’m beyond the point of caring.
BAC: 2.1
Winner: Michael Cole

Steven Gepp: Just. Stop. This. Now!
Limits Seen: The limits of the fans’ endurance.
Winner: Lawler (please? Pretty please? With sugar on top?)

Rhett Davis: Yay feet. I’m sure I’m in the majority saying that this feud should… END. NOW. I’m not wasting an explanation on this.
Winner: The King and not the fans.

Chris Sanders: Just…make…it…end.
Winner: Dignity…but in case that doesn’t work, Jerry Lawler

M.C. Brown: This feud will never end and just seeing Cole parade around with a HOF ring will cheese off fans.
Winner: Michael Cole

Wade Barrett (c) vs Ezekiel Jackson
Intercontinental Championship

Chris Biscuiti: The Corre is completely pointless right now, and Zeke will prove that here. No, it doesn’t make sense for Wade Barrett to drop the IC strap here, but that’s exactly why it will happen. Don’t forget, Zeke is the last ever ECW Champion, and who did he beat for no reason back then? You guessed it: Christian!
Winner: Ezekiel Jackson

Kelly Floyd: Everyone knows I consider Wade one of my top favorite men (for multiple reasons, but I digress). But I don’t find myself caring about this match. Not sure why. Big Zeke is impressive, but forgettable. This will be over before it begins. I wouldn’t be surprised if it opened the PPV.
BAC: 1.1
Winner: Wade Barrett

Steven Gepp: Now many are going to put this down because both guys are green-ish and sort of slow-ish. I am looking forward to it because (a) it is two new people, (b) I think both of these guys could ‘go’ if given the opportunity, and (c) I reckon this could be stiff and I love me a stiff brawl.
Limits Seen: Charisma and moveset, but it’s not going to matter.
Winner: Ezekial Jackson (so we have at least one title change)

Rhett Davis: Well this is one feud that I like. Big Zeke is a powerhouse so therefore Vince probably adores the guy. Hence all of the pushes for him. Wade is a great talker, but The Corre killed all relevancy the guy had. Ezekiel Jackson will probably win by DQ when The Corre jumps in.
Winner: Ezekiel Jackson (by DQ)

Chris Sanders: Its about time for Jackson to seek redemption for everything he had to endure from Barrett and The Corre. Its about time for Jackson to get a decent push, this should be the start.
Winner: Ezekiel Jackson

M.C. Brown: As much as Zeke’s push should keep going and he has been bested by The Corre, I see Barrett with a nice long reign. Then again, that’s the smart thing, so who knows?
Winner: Wade Barrett

Rey Mysterio vs R-Truth

Chris Biscuiti: My favorite match on the card is right here. I love that R-Truth simply hates Rey because he feels Rey stole his spot in a #1 Contender’s match for the WWE title, why? Because it makes the championship seem important when someone covets it as badly as Truth does right now. Also, the surprise heel turn overseas has been very solidly followed up on the past few weeks, and Truth deserves credit for that, Little Ronnie’s be damned!
Winner: R-Truth

Kelly Floyd: I love Rey. I do. But this whole R-Truth thing…I just don’t get it. Of course Rey will win. If he doesn’t, then I really don’t understand what Raw is anymore.
BAC: 1.6
Winner: Rey Mysterio

Steven Gepp: Truth entertaining as a heel? Mysterio pulling out some good matches? Well, both have been happening, and I am looking forward to this. No, really, I am.
Limits Seen: The crowd’s interest (but screw ‘em).
Winner: R-Truth

Rhett Davis: Well I promise I’m not stealing all of my opinions from Mike Gojira, but I agree that Rey will probably win this one to further enrage R-Truth setting him up for his inevitable feud with John Morrison.
Winner: Rey Mysterios

Chris Sanders: I get the feeling Mysterio is being used as a stepping stone to further solidify the new R-Truth heel character. Truth wins and moves on to bigger and better things.
Winner: R-Truth

M.C. Brown: Serious need of built up heels and Truth needs it more. Plus, Truth is older and has been around so it’s not like Rey would lose to a newcomer.
Winner: R-Truth

Brie Bella (c) vs Kelly Kelly
Divas Championship

Chris Biscuiti: Something tells me that K(h)arma will intervene on Kelly’s behalf here.
Winner: Kelly Kelly

Kelly Floyd: Never thought I’d root for a Bella over Kelly Kelly. But the Bellas have looked incredible lately. Much better than they did even six months ago. But then again, Kelly has some great tits.
BAC: 2.0
Winner: Joan Cena

Steven Gepp: If the WWE don’t care, why should we? I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again – the best women’s wrestling I have seen for the past 2 years, including Shimmer, TNA, and everyone else, has been in Adelaide’s own RCW. Savannah Summers and Miami would destroy these two bimbos without breaking a sweat.
Limits Seen: Everything to do with wrestling will be limited… and most likely so will clothing.
Winner: No result – Kharma comes out and destroys them both.

Rhett Davis: Well it’s a Divas match and Kharma has destroyed everyone in them for weeks so I’m predicting this one to be no different.
Winner: No Contest. Double DQ.

Chris Sanders: What all has Brie done as champ? If you’re still thinking then you’re putting way too much effort into it…the answer is nothing. Kharma interferes and makes sure Kelly gets the belt.
Winner: Kelly Kelly

M.C. Brown: I don’t see one of the twins have cross brand appeal as much as I see Kelly. Plus, Kelly’s bf is on Smackdown.
Winner(and new champion): Kelly Kelly

Big Show & Kane vs CM Punk & Mason Ryan

Chris Biscuiti: I’d love to see Punk and Ryan win, planting the seeds for Nexus and The Corre to (re-) unite since Punk would be able to go on both shows as one half of the tag team champions.
Winner: CM Punk and Mason Ryan

Kelly Floyd: I keep forgetting about all four of these guys. I adore Punk, but I rarely watch Raw anymore. Punk and Ryan have some serious potential on both brands to tear it up, whereas Show and Kane…do not.
BAC: .16
Winner: CM Punk and Mason Ryan

Steven Gepp: I actually think this will be quite the entertaining mess. Pity Punk is apparently going bye-bye because he and Mason would make good champs to be foils for Alpha/Omega. Show has proven he is quite the tag team competitors in recent years. Good on him. I like the Big Show. Deal with it.
Limits Seen: There will be lots, but I hope it won’t matter.
Winner: Alpha-Omega

Rhett Davis: I like the match-up as Mason Ryan is benefiting the Zeke way by power-housing the two champs. Punk and Wade could be transplanted in this feud that they are having with their powerhouse teammates. Well Mason Ryan hasn’t turned on Punk and co yet, but it’s inevitable right? I think the champs will retain with a similar end to the last PPV with Zeke and Wade.
Winner: Big Show and Kane

Chris Sanders: Some reason I think this is just another match to bury Punk.
Winner: Kane-Show

M.C. Brown: While it would be easy for WWE to give Punk a worthless title to try to make him happy, it would really depend on if they wanted Punk on Smackdown along with Welsh Batista. I think the match is set up for Welsh Batista to feud with Punk, so champions stay that way. The monsters should have a long reign and potentially be feuding with the Punjabi tag team in coming months.
Winner: Kane and Big Show

Chavo vs. Sin Cara

Chris Biscuiti: This one has the potential to tell the best in-ring story, and I think Chavo and Sin Cara will deliver the goods in every way possible.
Winner: Sin Cara

Kelly Floyd: I LOVE this. Chavo is one person I’ve always thought should be doing big things. And Sin Cara…is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. Chavo probably doesn’t even remember how to pronounce the word “win” anymore, so you know Cara will get it. But, if given legit time, this match could be amazing.
BAC: .01
Winner: Sin Cara

Steven Gepp: MOTN if they let it go the full distance and not give them 5 minutes including entrances. I’ve always liked Chavo, and they let him have a crowd pop in the Royal Rumble. So let’s hope Sin Cara doesn’t botch too much and that they’ll have some time to work.
Limits Seen: Hopefully none!
Winner: Sin Cara (debut, come on!)

Rhett Davis: I LOVE this last minute addition. Sin Cara is the most compelling wrestler in the WWE today and that’s most likely because he’s new, but I’m glad at least he is getting a feud with a veteran such as Chavo. The entire feud makes sense and that’s why I like it. Sin Cara wins and Chavo puts him over as a strong face. Congrats WWE to finally doing something right with this show. Possible MOTN, but I think that’ll be the World Heavyweight Championship.
Winner: Sin Cara

M.C. Brown: Chavo could win, but it would seem awfully early for Sin to lose his first match unless WWE is thinking Goldust vs. Sheamus. Sin shouldn’t lose here until Chavo is really built up.
Winner: Sin Cara
