Talk about a reversal of fortune. Last year was not a banner year for Universal Pictures. With a lackluster line-up that included Repo Men and Leap Year and super-inflated duds like The Wolfman, the studio couldn’t buy a hit. Then came Despicable Me to help offset the failures. This year, the studio is doing relatively well all things considered. Families hopped to Hop, and Fast Five has sped its way to a $500 million worldwide gross in less than two months. The Adjustment Bureau and Paul have also been modest hits. And then there’s Bridesmaids that shocked the hell of this writer and also has a lot of people talking making it a good word-of-mouth hit.
And if you haven’t seen it but are familiar with Judd Apatow’s work as a writer-producer-director, then you know he loves improv and ad-libs in his films. What doesn’t make it into the feature is usually reserved to the DVD in a feature known as “Line-O-Rama.” Three minutes of outtakes have found their way onto Funny Or Die, and it’s pretty funny stuff. Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm are the stars of this montage, but you also have “I at Saturday” kid that some may remember from the trailers but who was completely omitted from the feature.
Take a look.
