With the release of Bridesmaids, Judd Apatow got his groove back as a successful comedy producer. Made for less than $35 million, the comedy has gone on to hit the century mark in the span of a month. Universal Pictures, pleased with its performance, has already decided that it wants to make Paul Feig’s next picture. So the studio has acquired Feig’s comic pitch that will see him both write and direct, while Judd Apatow, the producer of Bridesmaids and several other comedy hits, will produce.
Described as “an unconventional love story” and something Feig has been “working on for awhile,” Universal may want to have it ready to be in theaters by next May. If that does happen, Universal would have three straight months of high-profile comedy releases as American Reunion (April 6th) and Judd Apatow’s still untitled comedy (June 1st) starring Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd would bookend Feig’s feature.
