AARON GLAZER:
I’ve heard good things about Rob, but if I didn’t read it for Jason Aaron, I’m not reading it for Rob Williams. I just don’t care for the character.

GREY SCHERL::
I don’t care about Ghost Rider, this could be Grant Morrison and I wouldn’t read it.

FEAR ITSELF #4 (of 7)
Written by MATT FRACTION
Penciled by STUART IMMONEN
Cover by STEVE McNIVEN
Variant Cover by STUART IMMONEN
Variant Cover by TERRY DODSON

The blockbuster Marvel event of the year continues!
AFTERMATH: the heroes reel in the wake of last issue’s shocking finale. Thor finds himself unwelcome in two homes. Steve Rogers makes the decision of a lifetime. And Iron Man prepares to make the ultimate sacrifice. Every move the heroes make just serves to make The Serpent stronger– and the feat he accomplishes in this issue will rock the Avengers.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

AARON GLAZER:
Wait, if this is 4 of 7 how is last issue the shocking finale?

GREY SCHERL::
Steve becomes Captain America again, Bucky gets buried, and Thor continues his impotence…anything short of the variant Cyclops-Magneto actually happening won’t get me to care
The copywriter obviously doesn’t know the difference between a cliffhanger and a finale.

AARON GLAZER:
That makes sense. I hate this stupid event. Fraction is like Nas – went from top 10 to not mentioned at all. Between this and Thor…

GREY SCHERL::
they built an event out of the wrong book, his Iron Man is amazing, but his Thor is a joke…I miss his Thor one shots and mini series, those were great

AARON GLAZER:
He’s probably just over-worked, on too many titles. Writing like 6 books a month – the good ideas aren’t going to be everywhere.

GREY SCHERL::
Sounds right

NEW AVENGERS #14
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Pencils & Cover by MIKE DEODATO
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN

It won’t take some of the Avengers to fight the madness of Fear Itself it will take ALL OF THEM!! The New Avengers and Avengers join forces in the face of true fear! And who will join the New Avengers for the first time EVER? Stay tuned, True Believer! This is a can’t-miss Avengers event!
32 PGS./Rated A …$3.99

AARON GLAZER:
Yeah, that’s fine… these events always end up really occurring in the Avengers books anyway, right?

GREY SCHERL:
Part of me thinks this might be a good tie in because Bendis will ignore the event in favor of the incident itself

AARON GLAZER:
It’s going to be a giant fight. It can be fun, but likely won’t be good.

GREY SCHERL:
Remember when Mike Deodato was struggling to do issues of Dark Avengers? How is he such a workhorse these days?

AARON GLAZER:
Lots of fill-ins? Or he just practiced until he got better.

GREY SCHERL:
I’m glad to see his work, so I really can’t complain.

SECRET AVENGERS #15
Written by NICK SPENCER
Penciled by SCOT EATON
Cover by ADI GRANOV
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN

With her world falling apart around her and the Avengers in disarray, Black Widow undertakes the most dangerous suicide mission of all — eliminating the evil mastermind behind FEAR ITSELF!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

GREY SCHERL:
Is Spencer just using each of his issues to spotlight a different team member during Fear Itself? Because that could easily make this book superior to anything else coming out of Fear Itself, I enjoyed the Beast issue in June

AARON GLAZER:
It’s Spencer leading to Ellis. I care. And he definitely seems to be doing just that. It’ll be the best Fear Itself book. Really, it is already.

GREY SCHERL:
Kinda like Initiative was the best Secret Invasion book.

AARON GLAZER:
Essentially, yes. Gage needs a book besides Academy, since I whiffed on that.

GREY SCHERL:
Your loss, great book

FEAR ITSELF: FF #1
Written by CULLEN BUNN
Penciled by TOM GRUMMETT
Cover by GABRIELE DELL’OTTO
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN

XXXX XXXXX…one of the most beloved heroes in the Marvel Universe…is now the willing avatar of the Serpent’s malice– an engine of discord cutting an unstoppable path of destruction through the heart of New York City! How did the Serpent’s Hammer seduce him so easily? Can the rest of the XXXXXXX stop him before he levels the entire city in the name of his dark master?
32 PGS./Rated A …$2.99

GREY SCHERL:
I have no interest in this save for that I like Cullen Bunn.

AARON GLAZER:
It’s the Thing. And I’m still not reading it. The event isn’t strong enough. It’s just a bunch of fights.

GREY SCHERL:
It’s a Michael Bay movie.

AARON GLAZER:
Remember when they pretended it would be political commentary?

GREY SCHERL:
Remember when they thought everyone would be shocked about DC getting attacked and nobody cared because it happens every few years?

AARON GLAZER:
It’s a mess. Know who should have wrote this?

GREY SCHERL:
Anybody else?

AARON GLAZER:
Brian Wood

GREY SCHERL:
I’d read it

FEAR ITSELF: SPIDER-MAN #3 (of 3)
Written by CHRISTOPHER YOST
Penciled by MIKE MCKONE
Cover by MARKO DJURDJEVIC
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN!

Day Three of the Fear. Spider-Man hasn’t slept in 72 hours… he’s hurt, exhausted, and he’s the only hope the people of New York City have. And just when things seem as bad as they can get… it gets worse. The blockbuster event ‘Fear Itself’ continues as Spider-Man comes face to face with a friend under the Serpent’s grip, a friend with every intention of killing Spider-Man with a very big hammer.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

GREY SCHERL:
Day three? Really? Is the event like, a week long?

AARON GLAZER:
Hey, it’s your boy Yost. Spider-Man doesn’t need this shit. He’s already going to be dealing with this event in two different Avengers books.

GREY SCHERL:
As much as I like Yost, I’ve found that I really only like him with Craig Kyle.

GREY SCHERL:
Mike McKone needs a consistent monthly job

AARON GLAZER:
As much as I like Yost, it’s really only for the Avengers cartoon, which is Uh-Maize-ng!

GREY SCHERL:
His animated stuff is awesome

BLACK PANTHER: THE MAN WITHOUT FEAR #521
Written by DAVID LISS
Penciled by FRANCESCO FRANCAVILLA
Cover by PATRICK ZIRCHER
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN

You’ve read about it, and may have even argued about it…but here it is: The debut of the American Panther! What does his arrival mean to Hell’s Kitchen? Find out in the series that Aint It Cool News hails as “one of the best titles Marvel is putting out!”
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

GREY SCHERL:
American Panther? Pass.

AARON GLAZER:
No use. Panther is one of my favorite characters and Marvel hasn’t had him interesting since, what, 2002?

GREY SCHERL:
Later than that, Priest was still writing in 03 when I started reading again.

AARON GLAZER:
So, since Priest left, everything but the SI tie in has been an unreadable mess.

GREY SCHERL:
Actually, I think Johns on Avengers lasted a bit past then, he did a good Panther…pretty much everything since Hudlin has been awful though. Needless reboots for a thousand, Alex.

AARON GLAZER:
Just let him be cool, clever and stealthy. It’s not a complicated character.
Oh well, moving on.

HEROES FOR HIRE #9
Written by DAN ABNETT & ANDY LANNING
Penciled by KYLE HOTZ
Cover by JAY ANACLETO
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN

It’s the most wild Heroes For Hire team yet! With terror in the streets, our underdog operatives fight just to keep the city together….and that means Misty Knight must recruit some very unlikely agents! Just who is for hire tonight? Would you believe Elektra, Shroud…and Gargoyle?
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

GREY SCHERL:
I have no idea why I don’t read this book

AARON GLAZER:
I read it. So much fun.  Go get it.

GREY SCHERL:
I’ll get the trades

AARON GLAZER:
DNA just tell good stories. Palladin is interesting.  I have no idea how that happened.

GREY SCHERL:
Paladin is famous for having his moments

AARON GLAZER:
is he? where?

GREY SCHERL::
Generation X, Thunderbolts, just scattered appearances that didn’t suck

AARON GLAZER:
Well, welcome to regularly not sucking Paladin; hope you stay awhile

FEAR ITSELF: UNCANNY X-FORCE #1 (of 3)
Written by ROB WILLIAMS
Pencils & Cover by SIMONE BIANCHI
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN

As armageddon hits the Marvel world in the events of FEAR ITSELF terror grips the planet. An extreme faction of the mutant hate group The Purifiers believes that the end of the world has come, that the devil is here for humanity and it is up to them to “save” as many human souls as they can before he strikes. Can X-Force stop their drive for worldwide suicide? And what, exactly, is a mutant kill crew afraid of?
32 PGS./Parental Advisory …$2.99

GREY SCHERL:
Hey look, more Rob Williams

AARON GLAZER:
I like the Purifiers. I mean, I’m not reading this, but I do.
Worldwide suicide is also a terrible idea and has nothing to do with the Purifiers MO.

GREY SCHERL:
It’s like they’re trying to create their own Rapture

AARON GLAZER:
Which has to do with mutant hate how?

GREY SCHERL:
Moving on

48 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

GREY SCHERL:
This is actually a compilation of short stories that have been going up as digital exclusive.

AARON GLAZER:
Good writers. Really, really good writers. I’ll get this, and I hate the concept.

GREY SCHERL:
Like the War of Kings: Warriors mini from a few years back

AARON GLAZER:
Gage, Pak, DeFalco and Parker – I’m in.

GREY SCHERL:
I’ve read a few of the stories already, it’s more readable than most FI stuff

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #625
Written by KIERON GILLEN
Penciled by DOUG BRAITHWAITE
Cover by STEPHANIE HANS
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN

Loki’s search for allies against the Serpent in the depths of the underworld has gone somewhat awry. Paranoia reigns in the pits, as the forces of Mephisto’s Hell and Hela’s Hel totter on the edge of open war. Thankfully, Loki has a carefully considered, planned and proportionate response: assassination and perhaps a little torture to follow. Can Loki escape the suspicion that we’re all flies to this wanton boy
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

GREY SCHERL:
I loved Gillen’s Thor, but when this launched as a FI tie in I didn’t even consider giving it a chance. Probably my loss.

AARON GLAZER:
Definitely your loss. It’s Mike Carey-fantasy-esque. That’s a very good thing.

GREY SCHERL:
I’ll trade it after the fact

AARON GLAZER:
This is why good books get cancelled.

GREY SCHERL:
It is, but I figure this will be safe

AVENGERS #15
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Art by CHRIS BACHALO
Cover by ALAN DAVIS
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN

It won’t take some of the Avengers to fight the madness of fear itself it will take ALL OF THEM!! It’s an Avengers reunion in the ruined streets of New York as Avengers old and new gather to fight the fight no single hero could possibly withstand. And finally, who on the Avengers will fall in love…for the very first time?! What? We can’t believe it either!
32 PGS./Rated A …$3.99

GREY SCHERL:
Bachalo is listed? I thought Romita was doing it, if it’s Bachalo I’m in just because of the art

AARON GLAZER:
Same shit as New Avengers. I’d be fine if this were 2.99. For 4$? Keep it.

GREY SCHERL:
I don’t even care about the story, Bachalo drawing the Avengers is great.
I’ll give you that, Marvel’s pricing doesn’t do a ton of favors for on the fence books

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #506
Written by MATT FRACTION
Art & Cover by SALVADOR LARROCA
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN!

As Tony Stark falls apart and struggles to rebuild, the world needs Iron Man in action, in battle, out there saving the day. Tony’s constructing the future of Asgard and the Marvel Universe, but if he can’t even save himself…how can he save anyone else? It all gets personal, as Tony has to face his greatest fear once and for all.
32 PGS./Rated A …$3.99

GREY SCHERL:
Fraction’s Iron Man is must read, but Fear Itself is the bane of my existence

AARON GLAZER:
How is he falling apart now? Didn’t we just finish this? He has a character arc damnit – I don’t want the event de-railing that.

GREY SCHERL:
I have faith in Frac to not completely crap on his years of Iron Man work for one event

AARON GLAZER:
I had more faith in that a few months ago.

GREY SCHERL:
I can’t argue that

IRON MAN 2.0 #7
Written by NICK SPENCER
Art & Cover by ARIEL OLIVETTI
I AM CAPTAIN AMERICA VARIANT BY TBA
FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN!

China is about to become scorched earth! The monstrous agents of FEAR ITSELF rip across the continent, as War Machine and the Immortal Iron Fist finally live up to their mysterious destiny! And will Marvel’s newest hero unite Rhodey and the Immortal Weapons…or tear them apart?!
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

GREY SCHERL:
I know you love Spencer, but the sheer amount of fan service in this solicit actually turns me off
War Machine, the Immortal Weapons, AND Fear Itself is a bit….it’s like they just threw a bunch of concepts together

AARON GLAZER:
I’m fine with it. I’m a big Iron Fist mark and the Immortal Weapons are fantastic. Spencer had to do SOMETHING with FI and he choose to bring some of my favorite characters back into circulation. I dig that.
I mean, what other option is better?

GREY SCHERL:
Not rush this book out, not drag it kicking and screaming into Fear Itself, let Spencer actually make the book matter before using it as event fodder

AARON GLAZER:
That’s editorial. I meant for Spencer.

GREY SCHERL:
….fair enough
