DC Comics Relaunch: Four Superman Family October Books Unveiled – Lex Luthor Back?

News

Finally, DC reveals the Superman Family solicits for October. So, is Superman’s new costume growing on you yet?

In the absence of our man Skitch’s take, allow me to give you the Babos Commentary on each. Be kind, since there is only 1 Skitch. :) I’m doing my best to follow in his footsteps.

ACTION COMICS #2:

In his weakest moment, Superman is taken down – but by whom? And if the world wasn’t ready for a man with super powers, they’re utterly unprepared for the rage of a Superman cornered! The cornerstone character of the new DCU continues his debut adventure!

Babos Commentary:

Still not sure about the “costume”, but how can you not like Rags Morales art. And, is the Lex Luthor we see in the window? Hmm.

Not sure where Grant Morrison is going with this, but I like that we have one of the Superman books exploring his origins. Hopefully we get some new takes with the classic origin.

SUPERMAN #2:

The all-new adventures of Superman continue! Everyone can see the new villain who’s attacking Superman – except The Man of Steel! How can he stop a threat that none of his super-senses can detect? Meanwhile, a Daily Planet reporter starts digging up some dirt on Superman, including a secret that could ruin him forever!

Babos Commentary:

I’m intrigued by the subplot. What could ruin Superman’s life forever? I wonder if this will be as exciting as John Byrne’s Superman #2 in the 1980’s where Lex Luthor learned that Superman was Clark Kent, but chose not to believe his computer read-out.

That Perez cover likes sweet and I am intrigued by this new villain. There, but not there.

SUPERBOY #2:

Project N.O.W.H.E.R.E. has put a lot of effort into creating their Superboy, and they intend to make sure he performs to their standards. And what better opportunity for him to demonstrate his raw power than to throw him into an alien prison riot? Good luck, Superboy… you’re going to need it!

Babos Commentary:

Ok, Project N.O.W.H.E.R.E. seems to be everywhere as it also features prominently in October’s Teen Titans #2.

This seems like a very “all new, all different” take on Superboy. Art seems very stylized.

Am intrigued and worried at the same time.

SUPERGIRL #2:

Get ready for a super-smackdown as Supergirl fights her cousin, The Man of Steel! What could cause these two to come to blows? Can the teenage Supergirl hold her own against the adult Superman? Well, let’s just say she’s got a trick or two up those fancy new sleeves of hers…

Babos Commentary:

Love the cover. Not sure I like Kara’s super-suit, but Superman’s is growing on me, a little here. And, Kara has tricks up here sleeves? Oy!

I didn’t read the last Supergirl run, but this seems about as new take on Supergirl as Superboy’s take in his book.

With Superman revealed to be a “brooder” in October, I was confused because I thought Kara as the angry brooder. Must run in the family.

Hope you enjoyed this Skitch-less preview. Skitch will be back soon. :)
