Jonah’s Jumpstart

I’ll skip the introductions this week, folks. This week is bigger than witty salutations and classy metaphors. This week, we core wrestling fans (and yes, I do mean the fans that see this “sport” as more than a childhood past time) have been privileged to something that rarely graces us: validation. This past Sunday, something may have occurred that only happens once every decade. The transitional phase of the past era may have come to a close. And with the bullet known as Money in the Bank 2011, we may have been witness to a shotgun revolution not seen since the dawning of rattlesnakes and Brahma bulls. Just maybe….

Our darling, the American Dragon, Daniel Bryan, seemed velcro-fit to the scenic mid card. Now, a blue briefcase has all but guaranteed his brandishing the most coveted prize in the company. With the antithesis of what Vince looks for as a top guy now given this opportunity, for whom else can we expect unforeseen doors to be open?

We’ve felt a hint of validation a few months ago, when one of the great two titles fell in the grasp of Captain Charisma, only to be taken from him within 48 hours. Now, after a series of fantastic matches with Mr. Numero Dos, a full-circle heel Christian has finally gone over Randall, and now holds that title once again, and in a more legitimate fashion.

And, of course, CM Punk. ‘Nuff said.

A fellow Pulse writer, Joe Violet, has stated in the most post, “Theory of a Rebirth”, mentioned that we may be in the midst of an era seemingly christened as “Attitude 2.0”. He’s definitely not far from the truth. Back in pre-Attitude times, Vince had a company of two top stars and a slew of mid carders pushing under a glass ceiling with more cracks than smooth surface. We’re now in a very similar pattern, only with the roll of Hart and Michaels replaced with Cena and Orton. Even the tournament that had taken place on Raw this Monday night seemed eerily familiar in a “Deadly Games” light. Question is, with Punk on a hiatus for the time being, who will be the proverbial leader of the pack?

Blue Streak

Friday nights, as of late, has become the definition of “rising youth”. With talent such as Sin Cara, Justin Gabriel, Wade Barrett, and Cody Rhodes, it will be incredible to see the feuds that occur and the Superstars made from the feuds of these incredible talents. But one star has stood out amongst this commercial-heavy period of ‘E. That man is now holding that holy grail of a blue briefcase.

Out of everyone in Smackdown, Daniel Bryan has the most standout potential. It goes without saying that he’s yet to have a bad match. And with such an anti-wrestling stance taken by Vince and company, Bryan is a great foil, representing everything pure about the “sport”. Given he’s yet to showcase any true mic skills, but just as Punk in his initial ‘E face run, opportunity may have just not presented itself.

The right feud and the right depth of character. That’s all that’s needed for Bryan to take charge and use that briefcase of his to establish something more than a short title run. Smackdown is already seen as the “wrestling” show. Now is the chance for the best pure wrestler in the business to run it, and run it successfully.

Seeing Red

I’m a Miz mark to the core (correct spelling). And though I’d love for him to be the face of the company, he, like Sheamus, have had their run. The new front runner of Raw should come from the batch of talent that has recently stepped up their game to main event level. Del Rio and Truth are in that batch.

Unfortunately, with the conclusion of Raw, it’s hard to tell which Superstar will come out of this as the new face of the company. Whoever they choose will have to go over Cena, and that, my friends, is a trigger that the company hasn’t been itching much to pull. This one, I’m afraid, is too soon to tell.

However, I will say this. When he returns, keep a weather eye on John Morrison.

‘Round the Bend

For those who believe there’s an anti-TNA sentiment running amuck within Pulse, Patrick Spohr has your answers about that TNA Conspiracy in “Caught in the Ropes”.

Though so many of us were emotionally invested and affected by MITB, here’s the most objective take on fan response by Matt Harrak on “Creatively Endeavored”.

Fed up with recapping Impact, Blair Douglas has decided to give his time to responding to our inquiries. And putting idiots in their place. Check out “Interactivity”.

Indulge yourselves in the many takes of this past Sunday’s revolutionary PPV from Rhett Davis, CB’s World, and the esteemed Pulse Glazer.

Klosing Thoughts

Through this stale, stale past few years, there have been several times when a ray of change glistened for a second. The ball, however, has been dropped, picked up, and dropped again so many times, many had become faithless. Leave it to our resident cult leader, Mr. Punk, to bring that faith back in. But with him now absent, will this upward trend continue? One can only hope Creative will change the course they’ve taken the past few years. One thing can be said, however. Unpredictability is once again back in wrestling.

Adieu.

I like my wrestling almost as much as I do my coffee. And I do love my coffee, as you can tell how much it's affected my skin tone.
