SDCC: Marvel Unveils X-Men Relaunch Covers Without Cyclops?

News

At the convention today, during the X-Men panel, Marvel revealed all kinds of goodies. Not the least of which are two teaser covers for Wolverine and the X-Men and Uncanny X-Men by Jason Aaron and Kieron Gillen respectively. Now, coming out of Schism, fandom had been of the belief that Cyclops would be leading the Uncanny team as the other title is clearly Wolverine’s team. Well, take a look at the covers.

Now, blacked out characters on a preview cover is nothing new, and they typically make for some fun guess work. Let’s see what we can do.

The Uncanny team is clearly led by Emma Frost, but looking at the figures you can clearly make out Magneto in the back, and I imagine that the Juggernaut style headpiece is Colossus. And while we can’t see him, I also presume that Namor will be on her roster as well.

Wolverine’s team is a bit harder to tell, but the goggles are screaming out Cannonball to me, and Colossus in the Juggernaut helmet is making me think that the girl with the ponytail on Logan’s team is Kitty. There’s someone with an axe, and a tail that definitely looks like the deceased Nightcrawler’s

Other than that? I really can’t make out the shadows. What do you guys think?

But one thing to notice, a missing character that sticks out like a sore thumb…where is Cyclops? The leader of the X-Men, whom is half of the focus of the Schism with Wolverine, where is he? And does this cover to X-Men: Regenesis have anything to do with his absence?
