I have a rule about ensemble romantic comedies. If one is in development and Richard Curtis (Love Actually) isn’t writing or directing, avoid at all costs. Last year’s Valentine’s Day was all kinds of bad. Yet its front-loaded opening gross was so good, and the actors worked for peanuts, that a follow-up was inevitable.
Ask and you shall receive New Year’s Eve. With a cast that reads more like a call sheet of actors and actresses to pursue, the team that brought us Pretty Woman and Valentine’s Day hopes to shower us with enough star power to light the New Year’s Ball in Times Square.
The trailer to the mega star(?)-studded ensemble has made it online and it is again another holiday themed rom-com. The cast includes Zac Efron, Lea Michele, Ashton Kutcher, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Seth Meyers, Robert De Niro, Hilary Swank, Katherine Heigl, Josh Duhamel, Jon Bon Jovi, Sarah Jessica Parker and Abigail Breslin.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that this comedy of colliding and overlapping love stories will culminate when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st. The movie, however, will see its release on December 9th.
