DC Comics Relaunch: ANOTHER Avatar VS Rob Liefeld & Sterling Gates’ Hawk & Dove? That’s FIVE!

News, Top Story

In addition to the four confirmed “avatars” (with pics) that will appear in Sterling Gates and Rob Liefleld DC Comics Relaunch of an ongoing Hawk and Dove title, comes a FIFTH avatar!

We have our main characters of Hawk and Dove as the avatars of War and Peace respectively. We also have the debut of Condor and Swan, but aren’t sure what they are avatars for or what they represent.

Now, we ALSO have a new avatar (right) that debuted in DC’s new #52Splash twitter feed, showing up in the early issues of the new Hawk and Dove DC Comics Relaunch series. He doesn’t look like Kestrel, Hawk and Dove’s classic “avatar” antagonist, but he does look a little worse for wear. So, is someone hunting avatars?

While this character doesn’t appear to be Kestrel, I’m sure Kestrel will appear soon and become the sixth (or the greater-in-number-depending-on-how-things-unfold) avatar. I’m intrigued for sure, but is this all too much of a good thing?

Also, check out the new image DC has released of Swan (left).

The more I see and hear about this new book, the more my hope is tempered with caution. The changes to the Hawk and Dove mythology could be exactly what the book needs or could come off as cliche. With Sterling Gates writing, I think that will be mitigated. Time will tell and the New 52 is only 2 weeks away with Hawk and Dove #1.

Oh, and over at Rob Liefeld’s website, he teases a steamy relationship (right) between two of the DC Comics Relaunch’s new avatars:

“Meet Condor and Swan. Find out what trouble they are cooking up for Hawk and Dove starting sept. 7th! Definitely not your Dad’s bird avatars!”

Okie dokie. Buckle up.

Rob Liefeld has also posted some interior pictures from Hawk and Dove #2 from October.

Through on, we do get a much better look at Hawk and see a few new characters too.

This looks like it will be a fun book.

Anyone else giving this book a try? :)
