Terrence Malick’s The Tree Of Life Blu-ray Announced

Disc Announcements, News

The winner of the 2011 Palme d’Or, and a film I labeled as having a “fractured narrative” but is “experimental nirvana,” The Tree of Life is coming to home video this October.

In an early announcement to retailers, 20th Century Fox is working to deliver Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life in a Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack on October 11.

Highlighted by Emmanuel Lubezki’s brilliant cinematography and disjointed narrative, Malick’s latest takes us on a voyage of kaleidoscopic moments, both the intimate and the cosmic, from the raw emotions of a family in a small Texas town to the wildest, infinite edges of space and time, from a boy’s loss of innocence to a man’s transforming encounters with awe, wonder and transcendence.

Regarding the release, the Blu-ray Disc presentation will have a maximum bit rate encoding and 7.1 audio and a 2.0 stereo mix. Extras include an exclusive 30-minute documentary on the making of the film, “Exploring The Tree of Life,” that allows fans to dig even deeper into Malick’s visionary work. The documentary will feature interviews with his collaborators and cast members as well as with directors Christopher Nolan and David Fincher (whether or not their comments will just be culled from this featurette is unknown).

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $39.99 (pre-order it for $29.99 here.)
