Disc Announcements, News

In an early announcement to retailers, Paramount Home Entertainment is prepping J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 for a November 22 release. Called this year’s “most thrilling movie” by Richard Corliss of Time, Abrams’ love letter to the early works of Steven Spielberg was a modest-sized $50 million summer release that went on to gross more than $250 million worldwide.

Arriving as a Blu-ray/DVD Combo with Digital Copy ($39.99 SRP), the release will feature more than two hours of bonus material, including eight behind-the-scenes featurettes; commentary from writer/producer J.J. Abrams, producer Bryan Burk and cinematographer Larry Fong; deleted scenes; and a deconstruction of the memorable train crash sequence.

For the DVD release ($29.99 SRP), it will include the commentary track and two of the eight behind-the-scenes features.

The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, plus 5.1 Dolby Digital audio in French, Spanish, Portuguese.

The DVD will feature a 16:9 anamorphic widescreen presentation with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio in English, French and Spanish.

Super 8 tells the story of a group of friends in a small Ohio town who witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie. When they realize that it was no accident, they set out to find the truth—something more shocking than any of them could have imagined. The film stars Elle Fanning, Gabriel Basso, Zach Mills, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee, plus Kyle Chandler and Ron Eldard.
