Michael Shannon To Reunite With His Take Shelter Director on “Mud”

Director Jeff Nichols, whose most recent film Take Shelter is getting some serious praise (read our Fantastic Fest review), is filling up the cast list for his next feature, Mud. New additions to the cast include Michael Shannon, who stars in Take Shelter (and also starred in Nichols’ debut feature Shotgun Stories), Sam Shepard, Sarah Paulson (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Ray McKinnon (TV’s Deadwood), and Joe Don Baker.

They join stars Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, and newcomer Tye Sheridan (Tree of Life). The film, also written by Nichols, is a coming-of-age drama centered on two 14-year-old boys who encounter a mysterious fugitive hiding out on an island in the Mississippi. Intrigued by the man, the boys help him evade capture and reconnect with the love of his life.
