Dana White Confirms Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann Gets Title Shot (UFC 136)

News

At today’s press conference for UFC 136, Dana White announced that there will be three fights with title implications. While Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard fight for the lightweight title, and Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian do the same for the featherweight title, Brian Stann and Chael Sonnen’s fight officially will be for the right to challenge Anderson Silva next.

Both fighters would have reasonable claim to being next for Anderson Silva, who is coming off a TKO victory over Yushin Okami at UFC Rio. Sonnen has come the closest to defeating the champion, dominating four rounds against Silva before losing via submission late in the fifth. Stann is coming off consecutive knockout victories of Chris Leben and Jorge Santiago, and a win over Sonnen would make the best possible case for a title shot.
