Comics Nexus Holiday Buyers Guide: Days One And Two

Features, In Stores Now, Top Story

So all month here on the Nexus, we’re going to be bringing you a look at the best gifts to give the comic book fan in your life, or even to further your own collection! There will be movies, video games, and yes, comics. So sit back, relax, and enjoy our look at the best buys you can come across this holiday season (and in the case of some books, beyond, as pre-orders will be included).

Now, just for the start, here’s two days worth of things to look at!

Day One:

Personally, I’ve been a fan of what Geoff Johns has been doing with Green Lantern over the past couple of years. I enjoyed Blackest Night, but did feel that the series, no, the franchise kind of dragged through Brightest Day. War of the Green Lanterns changed that by bringing to the table the same kind of crossover event that the X-Men franchise has been excelling with recently. An event that could have easily fallen flat wound up blowing away all of my expectations. There’s great characterization amongst the core Lanterns from Earth, and the Crayola Cavalry made for some good times. Great work from Geoff Johns, Peter Tomasi, and Tony Bedard. Not to knock the art from Doug Mahnke, Fernando Pasarin, and Tyler Kirkham. Really, for a Green Lantern fan, this is the best trade you can get this holiday season.

Day Two:

It might not have been the best movie ever, but hey, I enjoyed it. I debated going with another movie here, but with War of the Green Lanterns already here, I figured there wouldn’t be a better time to tell you to check out the Green Lantern movie. Sure, it wasn’t a critical darling, and it didn’t do big numbers at the box office. Hell, most people I saw slag it. But for me? I enjoyed it. It was a popcorn action flick that I enjoyed more than the latter two Transformers movies. It’s an enjoyable watch, and hey, look, it’s the extended edition!

So that’s days one and two! Hope you enjoyed it, and keep coming back all month for more!
